Peace – not just on Christmas!
One Christmas period (when I was very young), I told some of my siblings (I have 9!), ‘I wish one day we could stop singing ‘Let there be peace on earth”. Got a violent reaction (nothing physical, don’t worry)! ‘How could I say such a thing! It’s a beautiful song and it talks about peace on earth!’ Do I not like to have peace on earth? they thought.
Well that’s not what I meant. I was simply having a profound moment (stress on moment). What I meant was…. it would be great if one day we don’t have to sing or pray for world peace because there is already peace on earth.
I also thought the tune was a bit corny and gives me goosepimples (goosebumps) everytime I sing it…. but of course I didn’t say that cos’ it will just ruin my profound moment.
Last night, while watching ‘Top of the Pops 2′ (only have 4 channels to choose from), I saw an old, old, old performance of the song ‘I wish it could be Christmas everyday’. The video just proved how much I hated the song. Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas… but everyday? Just imagine giving gifts everyday! Getting stuck at the MetroCentre everyday! SecretSanta everyday! Receiving unwanted gifts everyday (My SecretSanta this year was not unwanted – a Barack Obama bio)!
People who would know me (i’m not famous though) would know I’ve got a ‘landscape orientation’ as oppose to a ‘portrait orientation’ (printer speak). I’m borderline obese me and I’m a PC! Point? I love food and cooking but I can not imagine having Christmas lunch everday! Even I have limitations… imagine all those washing and clearing up to do… and the left overs. I don’t think I’m ready for a ‘groundhog’ Christmas day.
But then again (profound moment No. 2, stress on profound) – Warning! cheesefest ahead… if having to celebrate Christmas everyday means peace everyday… I think I can live (and die) with eating Christmas lunch everyday. Although I think I might have to get a dishwasher and start using recyclable cockery and cutlery. I’d do my shopping online or maybe we can do without having gifts. What else would you want or need if we have peace?
Shoes?
Peace – not just on Christmas day.
